Discover The Benefits Of Windshield Repair, The Dangers Of Replacement And More
View Article  Roll Over Accidents In Oklahoma

I've been watching the news and since the latest round of winter weather noticed something that caught my attention. It started a week ago last Friday with a news report of a roll over accident in Yukon, at the Garth Brooks Blvd. exit on I-40. It seems the driver had lost control with their SUV and it had rolled down the embankment. Both the driver and the passenger were able to walk from the accident. The SUV did show roof damage but the windshield was still attached to the vehicle. It had performed it's job of preventing roof crush.

Later that weekend I saw news reports about 7 people being killed in a crash west of Oklahoma City on I-40. Looking at a front view of the mini van showed the windshield had come loose. Many of those killed were ejected. While I couldn't tell if the windshield had been replaced in either accident and while we were talking about a roll over accident vs. a head on crash I saw something that drew my attention. That being when a windshield comes loose in an accident it appears there are more severe injuries or fatalities.

Continuing to watch more stories and see reports in the paper proved to me that maintaining the windshield seal really was like what safety experts have been saying. By taking time to check and repair chips on your windshield you could be saving your or a loved ones life, besides saving money. A windshield is a life saving device in an accident.

I just saw this press release from the NGA in Auto Glass Magazine. With Glass Aid being a show your card and save participant I’m even more glad to see  AAA get on board with educating the consumer about safe windshield replacements.

Leo Cyr, Vice President of the NGA’s Auto Division is quoted as saying, “Many people just don’t realize that their car’s windshield contributes to the vehicle’s structural integrity by supporting the roof during a rollover.”

This last Thursday I knew that it would be a very busy day. For as long as I can remember, everytime a cold front comes to Oklahoma City in the Winter, starting 36 to 48 hours before its arrival the phone rings off the hook. I guess it’s human nature to put off car repairs. But windshield repair is something that shouldn’t be put off.

One repeat customer told me she had gotten her windshield chip just the day before. As we talked she asked if I was normally busy. I replied yes, but that when a cold front was due to arrive it was usually just plain kaos. When I told her about repairs being put off until it got cold she replied, “that’s crazy, when you get a chip it’s not going to go away or get any better, Git-R-Dun”. I couldn’t say it any better.

By putting off repairing your windshield.

  • You risk it cracking out.
  • The older a chip is the more dirt that gets in it. Simply put which gives the greater strength, gluing 2 dirty items together or 2 clean items.
  • By putting off the repair until the last minute you risk not getting the repair done in time. Further you put the repair tech in the position of demanding a good repair under less than ideal conditions.

When the cost could be so great both in money and safety, repairing your windshield in a timely manner offers the best chance for success.
